Unfortunately, disasters and tragedies such as those that occurred in recent years in Louisiana or the Virginia Tech campus were not singular events. Unplanned incidents have always had the potential to affect all areas of campus life including collegiate housing. What has been consistent is the need to prepare a campus to divert such events as much as possible or, if necessary, responding quickly to lessen the impact. That is why it is important for campus housing leaders to join ACUHO-I for this informative and eye-opening webinar presentation.
Norbert W. Dunkel, director of housing and residence education at the University of Florida and co-author of Campus Crisis Management: A Comprehensive Guide to Planning, Prevention, Response, and Recovery, and Douglas Hallenbeck, executive director of housing at Clemson University, shows you how your campus can be prepared to respond quickly, efficiently, and appropriately with established best practices. Using clear language and drawing from practical, real-world situations, this program will allow its audience to:
- Understand the complexity involved in a comprehensive housing crisis management plan
- Recognize the type, level, and intentionality of crisis situations
- Understand the equal importance of crisis prevention and crisis intervention planning
Electronic copy of Housing Crisis Management: A Self-Assessment for College and University Housing Professionals is also available. This assessment includes almost 150 questions each professional should use in the assessment of his or her crisis planning and response. Coupled with information from the presentation, this will facilitate the continuous improvement for any college or university housing office.
The event was moderated by Eugene L. Zdziarski, II, Ph.D., assistant vice president and dean of students at the University of Florida. Dr. Zdziarski has made numerous professional presentations at national, regional and state meetings on topics including crisis management, dispute resolution, and legal issues in higher education. He has also authored two books and several articles and book chapters on similar topics and served as a consultant to a variety of colleges and universities.
