History of the Housing Internship Program
In 1977, the ACUHO-I Housing Internship Program started with four schools. Today, almost 30 years later, almost 140 schools across the United States and Canada participate in one of the more prestigious and competitive higher education internship opportunities that exist.
International Internship History
The first proposal to expand the Housing Internship Program on an institution level was unveiled in Summer 2002. In Summer 2003, the first international opportunities took place at the University of Alberta and Victoria University of Wellington. Since Summer 2003, at least one host site has been out of the United States. As the committee has tried to reach out to international hosts, it has also begun to reach out to international students. Canadian students have participated as interns since 2003.
