ACUHO-I South Africa Training Delegation, May 10-28, 2008
These are exciting times for higher education throughout the Southern Africa Development Region as well as the rest of Africa. Higher education plays an important role in the socio-economic development and political renaissance in Africa. To this end, higher education institutions in Africa have a mandate to achieve higher throughput rates and graduate success to maintain the supply of graduates who will steer the development agenda in Africa.
As part of its ongoing effort to extend the benefits of ACUHO-I membership, the association has fostered relationships with college housing professionals at institutions throughout South Africa. Now it has grown and is on the cusp of formulating the first official ACUHO-I chapter, the ACUHO-I Southern Africa chapter (ACUHO-I SA).
In 2006, at the request of our South African colleagues, a group of ACUHO-I members and central office staff traveled to the region for two weeks to formally share experiences and professional practices. During this pilot program, the trainers delivered presentations at three regional training seminars and the second annual South Africa housing conference.
Following on a successful program last year, ACUHO-I has organized a second training delegation for housing and residence life professionals to develop and facilitate programs for the ACUHO-I Southern Africa chapter, May 10-28, 2008. Programs will be presented at regional housing seminars, student workshops, and the annual ACUHO-I SA conference.
