- Apply for internships in which you have a sincere interest in order to make the process as smooth as possible for you and the hosts.
- All internship offers and acceptance of offers must be made through the online system. This is critical so that the candidate pools and positions available are current for other candidates and hosts.
- Only internship candidates who have been offered and accepted through the online system will be eligible for the travel scholarship application and process.
- If you are offered a position, it is important to communicate your response quickly so that host schools can finalize their searches or move on to other candidates. You may ask the host school for up to 24 hours before deciding.
- Candidates may continue applying for open internship positions. Interviews and offers are ongoing until positions are filled.

How do you participate as an intern?
Candidates must complete the online profile and submit a $45 application processing fee. Candidates must include all required information and upload a resume.
How long do internships last?
Internships generally last between 8-12 weeks (mid-May through early August) but vary depending on the host institution’s academic calendar.
Who can participate?
Currently enrolled students (undergraduate or graduate) or recent graduates can participate. One does not need to be an ACUHO-I member to apply as an intern. Host sites, however, must be ACUHO-I institutional or corporate members.
Can undergraduate candidates be offered an internship?
While some host sites offer positions to undergraduates or have no preference, many openings are geared to graduate students. If an undergraduate candidate is interested in a site that is looking for a graduate student, it is recommended that they include a letter of support from a mentor or someone at their housing institution who can speak to their abilities.
What are typical intern assignments or projects?
Interns often work 30-40 hours per week and have a wide range of opportunities, which may include serving on committees, developing publications, revising manuals, supervising summer student staff, creating programs, assisting with training development, and meeting other site-specific needs.
What compensation is provided?
ACUHO-I requires that host sites provide their interns, at a minimum, with room and board (or its equivalent) at no cost. Compensation packages can vary significantly from institution to institution and are dependent on many factors, there is not a standard compensation for interns. Whenever possible, many host sites will provide compensation packages that include parking, recreation center usage, health insurance, family housing, travel reimbursement, access to local transportation, and more.
