As we previously shared, despite a robust recruitment and outreach process, we did not receive any applications for the Inclusion and Equity Director position for the 2026–2027 Executive Board term. This marks the first time in recent memory that a board position has remained unfilled at this stage of the election process.
After consulting with legal counsel for clarity on parameters within our guiding documents and giving thoughtful consideration to the available options, the ACUHO-I Executive Board voted to approve a process of appointment to fill the Inclusion and Equity Director for a one-year term (2026). This interim appointment will serve not only to fulfill the core responsibilities of the role but also to lead a strategic review and redefinition of the position to align with contemporary best practices and evolving standards in the field. A second one-year appointment will then be made to begin on January 1, 2027, to pilot the redefined role and provide feedback to the Executive Board. The updated position will then be included in the standard recruitment, nominations, and election process for the 2028–2030 board term.
Per our governing documents, the appointment will be made by the sitting president and confirmed by the Executive Board. At this time, we welcome the submission of a short, personal statement form from members interested in fulfilling this position (preview the form here). This form will close at 12 p.m. ET (US) on August 21, 2025.
The process timeline will be as follows:
- August 13 – Personal Statement Form Open (2026 appointment)
- August 21 – Personal Statement Form Closed (2026 appointment)
- September 3 – Candidate Zoom Interviews
- September 15 – Final Candidate Selected
- September 16 – Executive Board Vote
- September 22 – Institutional Support & Application
- September 25 – Announcement to Membership
- September-November – Onboarding for New Board Members (Virtual)
- October 14-15 – October Executive Board Meeting (St Louis, MO)
We appreciate your consideration as we continue to ensure strong leadership and inclusive practices in our governance structure. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Gay Perez

On behalf of the ACUHO-I Executive Board and the Nominations Committee, we are pleased to share the slate of candidates for the 2026 Executive Board election. Candidate materials and information about the nominations and elections process can be reviewed online. Voting will be open from July 29 to August 12. Each member institution shall receive one vote, and the SHO of those colleges/universities will receive the ballot on July 29, 2025.
Each of the slated individuals has demonstrated strong leadership, deep commitment to the campus housing profession, and alignment with the mission and values of ACUHO-I. We are grateful to them for stepping forward in service to our association.
However, we want to inform you that there were no candidates for the Inclusion and Equity Director position this year. Despite a robust recruitment process and outreach efforts, we did not receive any applications for this critical role. This is the first time in recent memory that a position has gone unfilled at this stage of the election process. We remain firmly committed to the principles of inclusion, equity, and belonging, and recognize the importance of ensuring this work is embedded and represented in our leadership.
We will keep the membership informed as these discussions unfold and welcome your feedback as we determine the best path forward. It is our goal to complete the initial process and update the membership by the end of August.
Thank you for your continued support of ACUHO-I and your active participation in this important election process.
With appreciation,
Gay Perez
